Students will get in assigned groups and study the following power point presentation. The group leader will hold discussion on each slide.

Task:
Students will use context clues to define the following terms from the passage “Are Bionic Superhumans on the Horizon?"
Open up Spelling Classroom and study the words that are assigned to you.

Write informational essay.
Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.8.2
Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.8.2.A
Introduce a topic clearly, previewing what is to follow; organize ideas, concepts, and information into broader categories; include formatting (e.g., headings), graphics (e.g., charts, tables), and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension.
Task:
Some students will be placed in an independent group and some in a collaborative group.
Independent Group
Students in the independent group will open HMH and go to waggle to complete the activity on Main ideas and supporting details.
Collaborative Group
The collaborative group will review the power point on Informational Essay.
Teacher will quickly review informational essay with the collaborative group.
With guidance from the teacher, students will write a four-paragraph essay in which they compare and contrast bionic technology that repairs damage to the human body and bionic technology that enhances the human body.
Students can log in to HMH for additional assistance.
Teacher will have students work in pair to edit each other’s essays.
Groups will swap after 30 minutes.
